As most of you know, Olivia and I are moving to South Africa to do some volunteer work. Olivia needs 2 years of work experience before she can apply to do her masters in global public health.
We will be living in Zonkizizwe, South Africa (Map below). The closest town to us will be Johannesburg. We will be working at a center there called Vumundzuku-bya Vana which means "Our Children's Future" VVOCF for short. Here is the link if you would like to learn more. The center supports children and youth who have been affected by HIV/AIDS by providing psychosocio support, education, life skills development, and a safe and fun environment for them. VVOCF is partnered with an organization co-founded by Olivia's professor and mentor, Dr. Jeanne Gazel, Global Youth for Education and Change (GYEC). http://www.gyec.org/
We will be spending two weeks in Michigan visiting Olivia's family and doing pre-departure training and orientation with Jeanne.
